I have tried to write about my “Aunt” Bobbie several times, but I have so many memories that it’s hard to focus. She lived a full life - - perhaps the last 4 weren’t great, but the other 88 years were filled with life and laughter. I have memories from every year of my life - - childhood, high school and college, my marriage, the birth of my children and their childhoods, high school, college and adulthood. I am an only child, but thanks to Bobbie and Doug, I had another aunt and uncle, and great aunts Enid and Ellen.

My mom and Bobbie met in first grade and throughout their lives; they remained best friends. And usually when I think of my mom, Bobbie is right there with her! Bobbie and Doug and my mom and dad were always together!

When I think of Bobbie, I remember her as my “fairy” godmother. She was also my son Al’s godmother. She was an active Fairview High School alumnus and a long-time Miami Valley Hospital volunteer and BFS (their printing company) officer in charge of payroll. Bobbie was a perfect hostess, either at BFS functions, the Miami Valley Country Club, their pool and summer house; and the many showers and events she held on my behalf. Her love for their many dogs was immense and she loved my dogs too. She and Doug helped me pick out and name my first dog, Rebel, an English springer spaniel. Every year we made the pilgrimage to see Bobbie’s Christmas tree and decorations - - they looked like something out of the Macy’s window! Bobbie and Doug were always on the go - - their worldwide tours and cruises were legendary, including Africa and Russia, and they traveled in the US too. They also loved wintering on Sanibel Island.

When I think of her I see her nails perfectly shaped and polished . . . her jewelry adorning her fingers, wrists, ears and neck . . . and her helmet of blonde hair. She was always so good to me and my family. She could be flirty and a little naughty. Bobbie could also be a little imperious at times, especially if she was defending her family. I remember eating at Hearth and Home with her. Al wanted a diet coke, which wasn’t on the menu. She sat up straight and demanded that they get her godson a diet coke!

My mom and I talked the day before Bobbie passed. Out of the blue she said “I’m so lonely; I miss Bobbie”! It will always bother me that I wasn’t able to see her since Christmas and that my mom and Bobbie were not able to be together one last time. I just hope that she knew how much she was loved and will be missed.

Have so many memories growing up at Bobbie and Dougs home, also many family vacations.
Bobbie always looked ready to go out on the town, her hair was perfect, make up and nails all done.
She was also a great friend to my Mom, Donna Berger, who passed away in 2016.

We have so many wonderful memories of both Bobbie and Doug - all of the Open houses at BFS, the conversations about business and trips, and of course, in her later years, Bobbie's visits to our office. We also remember so well the love she had for her little doggie. Bobbie was a lovely lady and a wonderful business friend and client. We all miss her! Bill and Pam Stephens and our staff at Stephens Insurance agency. We know she is happy now being back with Doug at her side!!!
