BLACK, Maria age 90 of Dayton passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Hospice of Miami County. Born November 5, 1928 in Dayton, OH to John and Valeria Baldassarre. She was a graduate of Julienne High School. Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent P. Black; sisters, Lucia Bard and Leticia Schmidt; and nephew, John "Mickey" Mc Williams. She is survived by her nieces, Mary Ann Schmidt and Amy Schmidt; nephew, Dan Schmidt; Goddaughter, Celestine Taylor Davis; great-nieces, Casey Legner and Rose Schmidt; and great-nephews, Anthony Legner and Dan Legner. Maria had a great love for the church and put her faith into practice every day through her involvement and through interactions with her family, beloved friends, and everyone she met. She worked various jobs and volunteered at Wright Patterson Air Force Base as a Gray Lady for the Red Cross. She eventually found her love while volunteering at Good Samaritan Hospital where she worked for over 25 years as a department manager in medical education. It is here where she fostered an environment of family and caring for many national and international medical students, residents, physicians, and medical staff until she retired. Maria was an avid dog and nature lover spending hours outdoors with her beloved pets throughout the years. She will live on fondly in the hearts and minds of many whose lives she touched. A Memorial Mass will be 10:30am Saturday, January 19, 2019 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Englewood, OH. with Father Jim Seibert, CPPS officiating. The family would like to express their appreciation for the outstanding care and compassion given by the staff of Hospice of Miami County. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church, 1000 Wenger Rd. Englewood, OH 45322 or Hospice of Miami County, PO Box 502, Troy, OH 45373.

I met Maria briefly through Adam Davis and his parents Tom and Deb Reynolds . She was such a beautiful soul inside and out. May she rest peacefully with her loved ones and her beloved animals . May God wrap his arms around the family and friends whom she touched
