Michael E. Banta, 73, of Kirtland, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio.
Michael was born on February 26, 1947 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Paul and Nina “Kathryn” Banta. He attended Lewisburg High School and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from The Ohio State University, where he played varsity soccer and was a member of Delta Tau Delta with one of his childhood best friends. Michael was in the ROTC program and commissioned into the Army infantry prior to pursuing his Juris Doctorate from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. When he was a law student, Michael served as an avid activist, working on an advisory committee within the Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. After graduation, Michael established his self-owned law practice in Cleveland where he served the community for 48 years.
Michael was a proud father of two children and a parrot, grandfather (“Old Papa”) to his two grandsons, and brother to his two siblings. Michael loved The Ohio State Buckeyes, gardening, grilling, and storytelling aided by his photographic memory. He was creative, thoughtful, and loving.
Survivors include his children, Tricia (Robert) Brichler and Julie Banta; grandchildren, Jackson and Davis Brichler; siblings, Anne and Steve Banta; and many other family and friends who loved him dearly.
A drive-through visitation will start at 2 pm on Friday, March 26, 2021 at Lake View Cemetery, 12316 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, OH 44106. Please enter at the Euclid Ave gate to line up for the visitation by 2 pm. Masks are required and social distancing must be observed during all publicly attended events.
Private family memorial service and interment will be held following the visitation.
