Obituary

Michele (Shelly) McKinniss (Roberts) died peacefully at Hospice of Dayton on Sunday October 13, 2019 in Dayton,Ohio at the age of 50.

Shelly is survived by her Son Harold and wife Britni McKinniss (Riverside); Grandchildren Daisy and Colton (Riverside); Sister Hazel (Gary) Watkins (Riverside); niece Pamela Watkins (Riverside); nephew Jason (Shannon) Watkins; great nephew Randy Watkins and numerous cousins and aunts/uncles.

She is preceded in death by her Mother Clara (Chappell) Roberts, Father Jack Roberts, Brother-In-Law David McKinniss and her 7 Babies she never got to hold during her time on Earth.

Shelly was born on March 15, 1969 in Campbell, KY to Clara and Jack Roberts. She graduated from Walter E. Stebbins High School in 1987. She was blessed to have her only child Harold (III) and Shelly set about being a stay at home mother for him. She instilled a great passion for being creative, kind, thoughtful and loving in him. Harold remembers a mother who always found the good in people and who encouraged him to always pursue his goals. His aspirations helped lead her to join the work force after raising him to pursue a career in customer service.

Shelly was accomplished at baking and anyone who knew her, knew her famous cheesecakes. She was a loyal, loving, dedicated and feisty individual who loved her friends and family and who was passionate about gardening, the revival of the Bald Eagles in the area and teaching her grandbabies the wonder and beauty of nature, especially butterflies.

A memorial is scheduled for 12:00pm on October 26, 2019 at Way of the Cross Church 612 Beatrice Dr. Riverside OH, 45431 with a reception to follow. Brother Bill Laudermilk will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Shelly’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Five Rivers MetroParks, making the Gift Designation to the Butterfly House at Cox Arbortetum via https://www.metroparks.org/make-a-difference/gifts/donate/online-contribution-form/. So I knew Michele through her time at Assurant. She was on my team and our desks were back to back. She always had a smile on her face and a cheerful Hello for everyone. She really loved her plants and had several on her desk. She knew I did not have a green thumb and go me a little squirrel on a post to put in my plant. The note she wrote is still attached and says " Mel, here is a little squirrel for you because you're my favorite nut" and it is signed by her. God has another Angel. My thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time.

Life will not be the same without Shelly, my baby sister. She was so much like our mother, Clara Roberts. Shelly was a hard worker, loving, kind, and thoughtful. She cherished being a mother and grandma. Shelly loved her family & friends. She had so many dear friends and spoiled her fur babies. Shelly asked Jesus to come into her heart at a very young age, All Shelly wanted was to go home. She never made it to her temporary home, but Shelly did get to go to her Eternal Home. Now she’s healed and has no more pain. I will always miss her. Love, Sissy

Our sweet, kind, beautiful Shelly! I can’t understand why God took you from us but he must have wanted to ease your pain and all the health struggles you have bravely endured. Life was not always kind to you but the amount of love you shared with everyone can never be measured. I am so sad we won’t be texting or chatting on the phone or running into you at the Second St Market. If I could possess one half of your fiery attitude and your zest for life, with the humanity and grace you have always shown and provided so graciously to others, my life would be so much richer. I have admired you, enjoyed your friendship and felt the immense love of your friendship. I am a better person for knowing you and receiving the gifts of what made you the special human being you were. You have left a hole in my heart and my life. Rest in Perpetual Peace my dear loving friend Shelly. I love you and your memory is forever stamped on my heart!
