Stuart was always kind. Well, OK, he was snarky, and sarcastic, and brother-poking-at-you-annoying – but in a kind way.

We met at the Ohio Renaissance Festival, I think. I certainly know that’s where he talked me into playing guitar for the dance band, and told me about the Bardic Circle sessions. Later, we were bandmates in the Irish band Aisling.

He always had my back and supported me. I am not a great musician, but I am as good as I am because he welcomed me to the session, made time to play tunes with me, told me when he’d heard improvement, and occasionally gave me pointers on specific things I might want to work on.

He was the brat that I could have mock spats with, trade insults with, act like a 5 year old with. He was always laid back and unphased, and brought me through many an anxious moment simply by being calm and unperturbed.

He'll be missed. I wish I'd played that one more session with him.
