DYE, William E. III, “Bill” age 71 of Dayton, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2020. He was survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary; two daughters, Heather and Megan Dye; son, Eric Dye (daughter-in-law, Alexandra Bohler); two granddaughters, Kya and Alana; two sisters, Linda Oliver and Joanne Turner; and one brother, John Oliver.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice George; father, Carl Dye Sr.; and two brothers, Carl Dye Jr. and Sumner (Marshall) Oliver III. Born in 1948 in Chicago to Bernice and Carl, Bill traveled around the world after the passing of his father when his mother re-married to a member of the Air Force. He eventually landed in Dayton where he graduated from Roth high school. After enlisting in the Army and serving proudly in Vietnam, Bill returned to Dayton and worked at the Dayton VA for 39 years. It was in Dayton where he met his wife and raised three beautiful children. Bill’s favorite hobby was wood carving, and he leaves his family with fond memories (and many examples) of spending a little time each day toying away at some piece of wood that would become a beautiful landscape, flower, pipe, cane or even a rooster on the end of a stick. When not carving, he was immersed in a good science fiction book or solving a puzzle game while listening to an old blues CD. He will also be remembered as a loving, devoted father and husband who had a head filled with the details of everything he had ever read, seen or learned about; those who engaged him never went lacking for a good story or history on a multitude of subjects.

In addition to his family, he leaves behind many friends who mourn his passing. Bill will remain in our minds and hearts, and we carry on in his absence. His family and friends thank you for all you have meant to him and us.
